Death doesn't really work as planned on a Hellmouth, Giles knows that better than most. It still throws him for a loop sometimes, but he'll learn to live with it.

(Or, Giles deserves a cat and Patches deserves better than to be a one-episode Pet Semetary shoutout, poor thing.)

Fun fact : The picture of a young Rupert shown in the episode Dark Age is a collage of the face of 17 year old Anthony and the body of Sid Vicious, of the Sex Pistols.

Since I've discovered that, I like to imagine that Sid was actually Ripper with a spell cast on his face so nobody could recognize him.

And Sid's overdose in the 70s? A cover up by the council... obviously.

I mentally have cast Michael Kitchen (particularly as Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle in Foyle's War) as Edmund Giles, but you are welcome to imagine whomever you wish.
