Summer of Giles

Summary: In the comics Giles gives Faith the opportunity to help Slayers who have gone astray. In this story she extends her purview to Watchers to make sure a resurrected Giles has a choice about what to do with his new life.
Note: I took the idea of Giles coming back as a twelve year old and ran with it. This does not follow comic canon. Big Al, Alexander Edwards, is my own character and is not Alisdair, the wizard from the comics.
Note: Mr. Bun is a character in the graphic novel, The Unwritten. Rupert would know him from a series of stories called Willowbank Tales.
Note: I was working on this pretty much down to the last minute so there are typos. If you see any, please let me know. I'd like to fix them.
Note: I had so much help I hope I can name them all.
GillO went to town with recommending food Giles would have liked with a child, with suggesting what Giles’ family home would be like, and with suggesting names for Giles’ mother. She also beta read this story over to make sure I got the British elements right. Of course I continued to change it after I gave her a copy to edit because story additions had me running behind and because I’m just like that. Naturally all errors are my own. I would say she was concerned I’d let loose another tea story fiasco, but she went over and beyond so it’s more likely that she’s naturally an amazingly nice person.
Il Mio Capitano suggested foods Giles might like as well as names for Giles’ mother. Also, along with pickamix, is the reason I expanded the role of Giles’ aunts in the story.

More excellent suggestions for the name of Giles’ mother came from Gabrielle, rbfvid,baudown, and StarKat.

Finally, many, many thanks to pickamix. Not only did her comments help me decide to give Giles’ aunts a wider role in the story, but her comment about Giles’ maturity level – given adolescent hormones – added a completely new thread into the mix and gave me my most excellent ending.


( The room, red and gold everywhere, looked like someone’s virgin kid was about to be debauched. For all that Big Al had ranted on about intentions being a heavy-duty deal for the ritual, the room he’d dumped them in wasn’t raising anything pure in Faith’s thoughts. Taking one look at the overly-stuffed velvet chairs, she decided to stand. Angel was sitting. Of course Angel was sitting. He’d been practically shitting guilt ever since he, or Twilight using his body, had killed Giles. Faith was sort of surprised he hadn’t found a bed of nails to lie on. )
