Summary: Now, the worst days of Giles' life. Faith is dead.

It never occurred to Rupert Giles that his wife might die before him. Of course, she was a Slayer, but he was a Watcher, an active one at that, who fought at her side more often than not. He was not one for silly romantic notions most of the time, but he had never really thought about their demise. They both had wills drawn up, they had a burial plot side by side. Somehow, he had always thought that they would perish together. Neither one of them having to mourn the other.

Rupert Giles had many presumptions about the way his life would go; ideas on the things that would absolutely or would absolutely never occur. If he thought about it, he had always been this way, even when he was a young boy. He could still recall being ten years old. There had been two ways he could see his life going at that time, and both had been equally appealing for very different reasons. He would be a fighter pilot or he would be grocer. Then his parents had come to him, had taken both those paths from him, informing him in no uncertain terms that he would be a Watcher.

Summary: → I got the idea for this fic listening to the Moody Blues song "I Know You're Out There" (Somewhere), hence the title, and borrowed a few complications and themes from other places to bring you a hopefully plausible world in which Faith and Ripper go crashing into each other with complicated results. Those that know me somewhat know I've been working on this concept for a long time and I'm happy it is well under way. With any luck I can push myself to finish before July is over. We'll see.
