Summer of Giles is proud to be returning for another season of awesome Rupert Giles fan created works.

We will be running through July only although if there is sufficient demand for more days I might extend into August . Sign-ups will open on May 16th with the usual rules of three days maximum per person and each day being open to two people. There will be the regular free for all day at the end as well of course.

No matter where we are in the world, we are all affected by troubling times, so I hope this will be something of a distraction and an opportunity for everyone to share and keep in touch. Stay Safe. Stay Strong.

The Fall 2019 round of Seasonal Spuffy will run from November 11 through December 1 on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth, with a double theme "Love Letters (to Something Blue)". Summer of Giles is now open for 2019!

As in previous years, please only post on the dates you have signed up for. We make allowances for timezones but it you miss your slot please contact the mods by replying to this post or emailing us at summerofgiles at gmail dot com. We allow two people per day so there are additional slots if you need to change your date. Please get in touch! Any posting without agreeing dates with the mods could result in the deletion of your work.

There is the traditional free for all day at the end of July.

Additionally, we are still accepting sign-ups throughout July.

If you're hesitant about signing up (say you had a date last year but you didn't make it, or you're feeling shy) - please sign up for a day! We welcome everybody! Especially if you want to get your toes wet for the first time in making something fandom related!

The sun is out for 2018 and it's time to plan for this year's Summer of Giles! We will be opening sign-ups from May 1st this year for our regular two month extravaganza of all things Gilesy in June and July. The site is under construction at the moment, but we do have a lovely new banner supplied by

In news over the winter, SOG was honoured to be voted Head-space of the Year at the Annual Headline Awards (for all things Anthony Stewart Head). Look, look at the shiny award! Our thanks to everyone who voted for us, it really does mean a lot.

Right then. Unless you are in Honolulu or somewhere, the three day first line last line drabble challenge is now over. Many thanks to everyone who took part and made it such fun! We are looking to schedule more mod/mad days in the coming weeks.

Update: We will be holding a haiku challenge day on Tuesday 13th June. Please wait for the official post.

We are now back to normal comm rules. Only the person who has signed up for the day may post from now on. If you have any further drabbles burning in your pocket, please save them for your own days, or the free for all day on 31st July, or you can post it at

giles_shorts where no fic is ever turned away.

Summer of Giles 2017 is now open for 2017!

Remember, you should only post on your assigned days with the exception of July 31st which is a free for all day. Obviously there are timezone variations which may mean overlap in some cases, but if you blatantly post on someone else's day, we will be strict about it.

Welcome to Summer of Giles on deamwidth. After 11 happy years on LJ, it was a heavy decision to take, but recent changes mean we can't support the current climate and so have jumped away.

All previous entries have been imported across, however, all links in weekly roundups or individual entries will still point to the original LJ locations (because it would be asking a lot of the Importer to know how to re-index!), so apologies for that. Similarly, graphics entries using LJ albums will still point to LJ for their source. Unknown users on dw have been given an OpenID account. If you have a dw account, you can 'claim' the openid and this will attribute your previous entries correctly. See https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=84 for more details.

We will continue to crosspost works to our tumblr blog and will accept tumblr only entries as we did last year. Signups for this year will commence from the end of this month so I hope as many of you as possible can join us.

Wow! What a fantastic two months we’ve had celebrating the life and times of Rupert Giles and I can’t believe Summer of Giles is over! On behalf of il_mio_capitano and myself, I’d like to thank each and every one of you - the creators, the contributors, the readers, viewers, and participants - for raising the bar year after year and keeping Giles in our hearts and minds. This year we had 54 entries over 61 days! You guys rock!

As a new mod, I have learned a bit from my time running things, things I might have learned earlier had I been paying more attention years prior when katekat and il_mio_capitano were running things. One of the things I will do in the future is put back the reminder of who is on deck for the following week at the end of each round up post, so there is less chance of people missing (or almost missing) their dates. And I do apologise for the lack of pretties to pass out at the end of the season. I am no artist, but we will figure out something to commemorate participation next year!

I’d like to thank the comm owner and my co-mod il_mio_capitano for her unwavering support. She’s amazing as always. I’d also like to thank saxnfoos for her beautiful Summer of Giles banners and icons that she created for this year’s SoG. Since I am so art challenged, that was a huge hurdle to overcome and she stepped in as a first time contributor and nailed it! And I personally want to thank you all again for treating me and your fellow fans to so many wonderful works featuring my favourite character in the Buffyverse. You guys rock! So, please come back next year (and bring friends)!

Also, for those of you who haven’t finished your fics, please don’t fret. We will be moving to moderated posting, however, you may continue to post your unfinished SoG stories to their conclusions. We don’t want you to lose your audience and we are anxiously waiting to read the rest.
