Summary: Many years ago, Rupert Giles made a reckless decision. Now, as Buffy Summer's new Watcher, he must face the consequences of that. But not alone. As far as Buffy's concerned, he's hers.

Notes: Real life hasn't given me much time for fandom things for the past few years, but I'm happy to finally be able to continue this story. It's grown a bit since I first started posting. Character inserts like this one weren't part of the original structure, but they will hopefully add more to the story.

This chapter can be read more of a standalone, but go here if you'd like to start from the beginning. 

I mentally have cast Michael Kitchen (particularly as Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle in Foyle's War) as Edmund Giles, but you are welcome to imagine whomever you wish.

Edmund Giles was an early riser. Unlike others in his organization whose work was definitely nocturnal, Edmund duties were primarily those that could be conducted during daylight hours....
