Giles & Willow - a Duality Picspam
Hi all, I'm new to the comm but really happy to be here. Cause Yay Giles! For my contribution I made two duality-focused picspams (with some meta to go with it) about why Giles is an awesome man, specifically in regards to Willow.
I love at the end of season six, we see Giles going up against Willow. I love Giles' relationship with all the Scoobies, but Willow in particular because her turn to the darkside represented Giles' own dark past. It was like seeing his daughter repeat his mistakes. And the horror in him realizing how far he was able to go, but also in realizing that she was infinitely more powerful than all of them. He must have been experiencing this sick mess of pride and fear.
6x22 - Grave

And then the opening of season seven (which is my favourite season), after everything they did to each other, he's there helping her get better. She tried to kill him (and the world), and like he always does, he offers her forgiveness and support. He's dedicated to helping her get better, to push through her addiction and mental health issues, to find stability and to learn how to use her powers safely. He's truly a father and a mentor here (as he always is). And like how he always is, he's not threatened by her power. Any other man may have been so threatened by Willow's power that he would have encouraged her self destruction, but he didn't do that. Which is why Giles is awesome; two of his daughters are two of the most powerful human beings on Earth...and he loves them all the more for it, supporting them however they need. Giles is an excellent role model for fathers and men.
7x01 - Lessons & 7x02 Beneath You

mods: I seem to be having issues with tags. It won't add my creator tag (already in the tagset) and if I could get a 'giles & willow' tag that'd be fab!thanks!

I've added the creator tag to the post. LJ seems to be being fickle with letting you use new tags. We will probably have this issue again on all first time posters. I will try add when I spot them.

LJ seems to be having a bunch of issues with tags. I know when I try and create a new tag on a new post on my journal, it won't let me. I have to go into the 'edit tags' feature after its posted. Thanks LJ :P

Also, in regards to your thoughts on them having the same struggle with magic, I made a video about that very thing last year. Not to try to get attention, but I really think you might enjoy it. LJ will screen my comment if I put the address, but if you search 'Giles & Willow don't mess with magic' on youtube you should find it. I'd love to know what you think.
Welcome to the family. So happy to have you join us.

The only thing I wish was that Giles had tried to train Willow earlier and I often wonder why he didn't. I remember times when he worried about her over extending herself taking on spells that were particularly advanced, but I've always been confused as to why he didn't talk with her more about it in the beginning, and train with her. Sometimes I've chalked it up to his own attempt to balance magic-as-an-addiction - that he was/is addicted too, and so only used magic when it was necessary and couldn't in good conscience train her; sometimes I've wondered if he was somehow embarrassed? I'd be curious what you think!
(also, fantastic first post!! welcome again!!)
