Favorite Giles Moments (Season 2, Part c)

Here's where the uber!angst of the season begins... and even though it's understated... all it makes us both want to do is pet our poor Rupert Giles.  Season 2 really was a great season that developed his character - the best and the worst of times, so to speak.  So, without further ado, here are... well... some of the worst trials Giles had to go through (and maybe some good stuff in between?)


PIC 20: THE BREAKUP (IE: I NEED TIME)

You can't really protest when your girlfriend says she's a little afraid of hanging out with you & the demons... but poor Giles!

PIC 21: SURPRISE...

Kate: Look, Giles knows how to use a noise maker! And is not above slightly deflated excitement... at least he was on board for a Slayer birthday party.

EB: Ooh! Someone looks so very excited to be at the party. */sarcasm*

PIC 22: POST DREAM... STUCK IN THE MIDDLE

Kate: Man, it must've sucked to be torn between the woman you want to date and the young woman you want to support.

EB: Poor Giles. What a tough position in which to be…

PIC 23: POST EXPLOSION!

Kate: How cute is this? It's always good to hide when Buffy decides to pull out the rocket launcher.

EB: What an adorable face! Is it over now?

PIC 24: THE DRIVING WATCHER

The Citroen!! Although we may have seen it earlier, this is the best screencap I could find - but it's Giles' French car! Hee! (sadly, it's also Giles' French car in a scene that has one of the sweetest, but also one of the most sad moments in Buffy/Giles interaction... and is the quote that we used to signal the lj cut for this post)

EB: I love, love, love when Giles drives his beloved Citroen. This is also, IMHO, one of the sweetest scenes in the entire series. *sniffles*

And now... come this way for even MORE angst... yep, that's right, we've pulled caps from Passion. We had to. These were pivotal moments for our Rupert. They were also some of the most heart-wrenching. Joss & Co really know how to do numbers on us all.

Though this is not the *first* Giles/Joyce moment... it's definitely one where you can see the wheels turning in Joyce's head. Speculative wheels. Many speculative wheels. *grin*

PIC 32: IN ANGEL'S CUSTODY

Yep, there's SERIOUS trouble brewing. One of the most ominous shots of the season, especially with that hand on Giles shoulder.

EB: This is a creepily beautiful screen-cap. Look at the pain on our poor Giles’ face. It’s just. *heart in throat*

PIC 33: DRUSILLA'S KISS

Kate: I know it's inappropriate, but I like that Giles is the one that gets the most kisses with the most people in the series. And yep, I'm counting Dru. She didn't want to give him up, after all. (Cuz think about it - Giles/Jenny kisses, Giles/Joyce ...kisses... Giles/Dru kisses, Giles/Olivia kisses, and Giles/Anya kisses. That man got around!)

EB: I just love it when Giles is treated as a man with sex appeal. He is damn sexy and it makes me giddy to watch scenes where that is acknowledged.

PIC 34: THE RESCUE

They're all in shock, and really, who wouldn't be. And they're all hopeful that Buffy will be back, really they are. And Giles sticks next to his protector.

Great pictures! I do have a weakness for a strong, angsty Giles. The shot with Angel is particularly striking.

One small, trivial note--Citroen is a French carmaker. Which makes Giles' choice of vehicles particularly eccentric and enigmatic.

You know, Ann and I were just talking about this today. It toasts our cheese that by season seven Rupert is shoved in the grandpa sweaters and they act like he's 80. No one talks to him, no one loves him. But the part that has us ticked is that they act like he's not the sexy beast he is. Who would not want to be pinned to the wall by this guy and ravaged until you are screaming his name? And yet they play up the "he's old and ewww" thing. WRONG!

Anyway, this was my admittedly long winded way of saying I agree with your, "I just love it when Giles is treated as a man with sex appeal. He is damn sexy and it makes me giddy to watch scenes where that is acknowledged." You tell them! and Amen! :)

I know - it's not only incredibly frustrating, it's one of the reasons why I haven't rewatched season 7 since it aired. It is lame that they originally valued his character enough to give him complexity, and then the show just perverted itself by the time it was done (but i think that it did assassinate pretty much *every* character i liked, every single one. bleh).

I was always hoping there would be more couply plot developed between Rupert and Joyce. Oh well, it wasn't to be.

Beautiful screencaps. That one with Angelus just makes my skin crawl.

Red roses are my favorite flowers, but after Passion I couldn't look at them or smell them for weeks without just feeling ill. Even now I'm not quite as fond of them as I used to be. When a TV show can do that, you know you've got an incredible combination of talent screwing with your brain. That scene was so affecting and so painful largely because of ASH's exquisite acting. That man can say more with a glance than many can say with an entire dictionary of words.
