Vid: Say Something - Giles & Willow (FRC)

It's time to proudly let my ship flag fly!  You knew I had to make a Giles/Willow vid for this year.  Although, the ending may be in the eye of the beholder.  Here it is and hope you enjoy.

Say Something ~ Giles & Willow

Willow has always loved Giles.  Giles has always loved Willow.  Everyone around them can see it.  But, while she is too unsure and he is too proper, they may wait forever for the other to say something.

You *would* give this a happy ending. Good for you! I love your vids. Also, this is so the opposite of how I've been reading this song. I've also ways taken it as "We've been together all these years but I can't reach you emotionally so we have to end this established relationship if you can't actually try to be here for me." But, "Say something instead of pretending we are 'just friends' until we both litterally die from laspe of time and never get to have Relationship in the first place." Is an equally valid and beautiful reading that I honestly never saw until you showed it to me. Wow, seriously, thanky you. It's like a whole new song for me now. Richer, deeper and more inclusive of the whole experince of sruggling with the in-out of loveness of life.

I feel like the ending could be interpreted two ways, depending on what the viewer hopes to see. Either they finally admit to each other their love and decide to try to be together. Or they acknowledge their feelings and agree that they are good as friends. Either way is a happy ending. But, this is the video I was asking for help to find that shot for. For a long time it ended with Giles shutting the door after finding Willow and Kennedy... And it was the most depressing thing I had ever made! I never did find the scene I imagined and had to make due, but I think it worked out. I need to do hopeful, if not happy, endings. Otherwise I see no point in making my own stories.

Also, I have to say that since I've been making vids, I often listen to songs looking for the story I can tell with them. The first couple times I hear this one, I think I did see it as you did. But then, one day I listened and saw Willow and Giles and the story was there. After that it was stuck in my head until I made it. As happens with most my vids.

I'm not at all a Giles/Willow shipper (I really can't ship Giles with any of the core Scoobies, tbh) but your vid definitely made a convincing case for them loving each other. Good job!

Well... whether you ship them or not, no one can say they didn't love each other. They were so much alike in so many ways.

I never would have put Giles and Willow together, but your video made it believable. This was a really nice job, and you picked a lot of good scenes. Music was beautiful and really went with the visuals. thanks!

Thank you. The most difficult part was finding enough S7 footage of Giles and Willow together, which was surprising. I'm so glad you thought everything fit. The two of them were always so much alike, no matter what kind of relationship you see them having, there's love there.

That was a lovely and believable portrayal of these two unable to bridge that gap between friend/mentor/student affection and something deeper and more dangerous. Seeing Giles watch as Willow goes through her various relationships as a terrific interpretation of this song.

well regardless of if that's a platonic or romantic hug at the end, you absolutely showed how much they loved each other and how constant it was over the years, which is just so beautiful. Also though, I really loved the way you cut in shots of all the rest of the scoobies encouraging them both to just say something to each other - it made the chorus really effective not just emotionally but also visually!

Even though I do ship them, I don't really care whether others see them romantically or not. But... if anyone ever tries to tell me that they didn't love each other, I will fight to the death on that point.

And, that's one of the reasons I chose the Pentatonix version of the song. It had voices for everyone in the story I was telling. Seeing the others as the chorus is one of the first ideas I had when I heard it.
