8. The Third Encounter
When he was dry and dressed, he crept back into the still-dark room and, quite inappropriately it seemed, laid in the bed next to her. He believed she was already sleeping; her breath was steady and limbs relaxed.

Tell her now, he willed himself.

Leaning over, shutting his eyes so he wouldn’t see what an old fool he had become, he barely whispered, “I missed you. And the only part of that hell I ever loved was because of you.”

He slipped back over to his side, under the covers, his exhaustion, his scars enveloped. The luxury of loving her was over. It was time to move forward, wherever that would lead.

I really enjoyed this look into Giles' head, and you've piqued my interest in "Something Else," which I shall have to go read, now.

Psst - your "Something Else" entries are locked. Any chance of opening them up?

Cool, thanks!

Nicely done. I like your short, sharp chapter form - it works here! A very plausible look into Giles's confusing motivations and actions!

Woah, yes, I can see how this would lead into "Something Else". I like the way you have them together but uneasy and unsettled. No easy answers or solutions, no easy patch-ups. I'm so glad you're writing once more!

Whether she heard him or not, I'm glad he said it for himself. This was a very nice look at how Giles felt throughout season 7 and after!

Wow! Lurker here. Really enjoyed this fic. Great Giles. The whole fic was wonderfully descriptive and loved the scoobies back together. I am going to read your sequel to this asap. Thanks so much for this story. Vehnu

I really truly adored this. Thank you so much for contributing it, all of it. I think because the focus was so much on all of Giles' relationships and on Giles himself and exactly what he was feeling (although you did that with an economy of words that was truly fantastic) that his voice is very profound and rings quite true. Beyond that, you didn't shy away from any of the griefs that the gang were dealing with after the battle, and I really appreciated you mixing in the crazy ordering spree of food with the physical display of Buffy's own broken nature. And even though my heart aches for him, Giles' inability to tell Buffy that he did miss Sunnydale (and her asking of the question at the most inappropriate of moments) really was just so spot on it got me in the gut.

As soon as I get some free time I'm heading over to check out Something Else and see where you head from here.

Thanks lady!

That literally made me cry.

I love stories about sad, angsty Giles, because they are honest. But in the end, I want him loved and held and healed. Don't leave me hanging! :)
