The Surprise Date, Giles/Jenny

Title: The Surprise Date
Pairing: Giles/Jenny

Takes place during season 2.

“And that’s the reason why you need to know how to use safe mode,” Jenny said, finishing her class just in time for the last bell to ring. “Okay, people, we put this into practice on Monday,” she said, dismissing her students.

Jenny turned around and started erasing a very messy blackboard. Just then, she heard a knock on her door. She turned, and there was Rupert- looking stunning as usual, although she sometimes wished she could get him to wear something that wasn’t tweed.

“Rupert. Nice to see you,” she said, sitting on her desk.

“Jenny. I was wondering- if you were amenable- that is to say… would you like to go out tomorrow night?”

Jenny smiled at her sweet, stuttering boyfriend. “Sure. What are we gonna do?”

Rupert grinned, his eyes glinting, “It’s a surprise.”

“Surprise?” Jenny asked. She narrowed her eyes. “You wouldn’t happen to be paying me back for the monster trucks, would you?”

Rupert put one hand to his chest in innocence. “Who, me?” He laughed when her face didn’t change. “No, Jenny, it’s a good surprise. At least, I certainly hope it is.”

Jenny finally relaxed, a smile playing on her lips. “Well, okay then. See you tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow at seven, if that suits you,” he said, coming closer to her.

“Suits me fine, England,” she said, reaching out for his hand. They kissed for a minute, Jenny finally drawing away. “I’d better get going. See you tomorrow.”

Saturday, at 7 o’clock on the dot, Jenny’s doorbell rang.

“Just a minute!” She called, racing through the hallway in her tea-length sleeveless black dress, with a black wrap-around. She took a moment to check her lipstick in her compact before opening the door.

There stood Rupert, as handsome as ever. For once, he had ditched the tweed. He was in what looked to be a nice pair of black slacks and a simple long-sleeved black polo shirt. Jenny liked the look quite well.

“My. Don’t you look handsome?” She asked, waving him into the house.

“And you, my dear, look beautiful,” Giles said, holding out a bouquet of yellow and pink tulips.

Jenny blushed, quickly putting the tulips into a nearby vase.

“We should go- we’re on a bit of a time schedule,” Giles smiled.

“Oh yes- the surprise.” Jenny said. “I don’t suppose you’re going to tell me where it is we’re going.”

“Now that would ruin all the fun,” Giles smirked, showing her out her door and down the sidewalk. He went around her side of the car and opened her door for her, ushering her in. Then he went around to the driver’s side and got in.

Jenny stared across the car for a moment. “Are you- you’re wearing an earring,” she said, catching a glint of gold in Giles’s left ear.

Giles blushed a bit, ducking his head. Jenny reached across and fingered the earring. “Suits you,” she murmured.

Giles just grinned, starting up the car.

20 minutes later, they were in front of what looked to be a beautiful (and, Jenny thought, probably expensive) restaurant.

Giles smiled at Jenny as he opened her door for her again, taking her arm as he walked to the restaurant.

“Reservation for Giles, please,” he told the host. The two were soon seated at a small table in a corner of the restaurant. Jenny looked around at the beautifully textured walls and realistic murals.

“Wow, Rupert. You’ve outdone yourself,” Jenny said.

“I’m so glad you like it,” Giles smiled, taking her hand and kissing it.

“Rupert Giles, you are just full of surprises,” Jenny said.
