I wouldn't call this angsty. Unbearably sad, yes, but far too realistic for it to be angst. Death is a part of life and it's nice to see it handled in a way that feels true.
But I do understand about how it might be cathartic. A few months after my dad passed away, I used fanfic to write about process of grieving. Even after all these years, I still don't think I can write about my experience more directly than that. But it was something that I wanted, maybe even needed, to write and I like to think that reading it has helped a few people too.
