I think the trick to remember (in what my church pew-mate and I call braincheck 'cuz we are smartalecks) is that, if the word ends in or, then you don't insert the u in the U.S. Flavor, color, etc. And those words are nouns. But adjectives that are formed by appending ous retain the u. Think grievance = grievous, etc. I say the hell with it and spell Canadian anyway All.The.Time. The only difference I try to remember is Britspeak for certain words, esp. when my characters are in the U.K.
But, more lol about the hawtness of het. I went through the same transition in attitude (in RL) about 15 years ago. ::giggles remembering stuff::
