FIC: Pride

I meant to post this much earlier today, however some personal things have come up this weekend. Thankfully it's still the 20th on the West Coast.

Title: Pride
Author: [personal profile] aaronlisa
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing/Characters: Rupert Giles, with mentions of Buffy Summers
Rating: FR13
Disclaimer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer belongs to Joss Whedon and company.
Notes: Set immediately after Chosen ends.
Summary: As they stand at the edge of the crater, Giles allows himself a brief moment of reflection.
Word Count: 276

As he stands at the edge of the crater that was once Sunnydale, Giles is bursting with pride for his Slayer. He knows that although he had guided her, taught her how to wield her weapons and patched her up, this moment is completely hers. Although he always stood by her and gave her everything that he had to give her, until he had to leave because he knew that she had to stand on her own two feet, Giles believes that he had little to do with the events that lead them to this point.

There were times when he lost faith in Buffy, not that he would ever tell her that. But there were times when he wasn’t sure how she had managed to defeat Lothos much less the Master and the others that followed. He wasn’t sure how he managed to survive. Now as he stands behind her as she gazes at what she has wrought, Giles still isn’t sure how any of them managed to live to tell the tale.

In a few moments, they will march back to the bus and life will come crashing down upon them. The wounded will need medical attention, the Council will have to be rebuilt, Slayers will have to be found, and so many other things to be done that he is almost dizzy just thinking of it all. Yet right now, he stands there and he allows himself to be filled with pride for the woman that Buffy has become, the woman he allowed her to be because he refused to let another young girl be suffocated by the antiquated ideals of the Council.
